Lessons From the Longest Study on Human Development

In her Ted Talk, Helen Pearson, a mother and editor of the science journal Nature, sorts through the longest-running study on human development ever. More than 70,000 children spanning five generations were involved in the study, called the British Birth Cohorts, generating terabytes of computer data and over 6,000 academic papers and books.

What's the single most important factor in a child's life? "Engaged, interested parents." What makes for an engaged parent? "The small things." Storytelling is one of them.

The Storytelling Loop is a newsletter bringing you tips, science, and real-life examples of how storytelling builds the connection between parent and child. It is a joint project of Silke Rose West and Joseph Sarosy, the authors of How to Tell Stories to Children.
