The Background
2020 has been a tough year. Yet we still find joy in many things - a friend’s smile, finding that lost tooth brush (is that just us?), a child’s laughter, and a good story.
Let’s help mend hearts at home by bringing a little joy and perspective into our lives the same way people have always done: telling stories that make us laugh, think, cry, and sing.
The Rules Are Simple:
Submit an audio recording* of your story by November 13.
Your entry will be hosted on a dedicated web page that you can share with friends and family. You will also receive a free copy of How to Tell Stories to Children.
For every entry we receive we will donate $1 to Operation Turkey, and the more the merrier, er gobblier.
The best Thanksgiving stories will be curated and released as a free collection on November 24 (just in time for Turkey Day)
Listen, share, and vote for your favorites by November 30
The grand prize winner will be announced December 1st, and the proceeds will be donated in your name.
*Stories must be original. No reading or borrowing please. MP3 format is best. A smart phone works well as long as you minimize background noise.
What makes for a winning story?
A winning story could be all kinds of things. We're looking for funny, colorful, wild, or adventurous tales. But there's one thing every story should have - it should stem from that rockin’ love between you and your child.
Who Receives the Donation Money?
Operation Turkey is a 100% volunteer organization with no paid employees. They have more than 35,000 volunteers in cities across the U.S. working to ensure everyone receives a warm meal on Thanksgiving Day. Learn more.
Who Benefits?
Research shows that everyone benefits from storytelling. It helps us remember information, calm our nervous systems, practice life skills, focus attention, and more. That’s why we want to support parents telling stories at home.
We believe that millions of parents bonding with children in this small and incredible way will strengthen families and children in diverse settings, leaving a huge impact on the planet’s well being.
